Netflix has canceled its action comedy series Obliterated after a single season.
The series, from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald, was originally developed for TBS, where it earned a straight to series order in 2019. As TBS cut back on its scripted output, however, Obliterated became a free agent and landed at Netflix in May 2022.
The show follows a special forces team that thwarts a deadly threat to the city of Las Vegas, then spends the night celebrating their successful mission — only to discover that the bomb they disarmed was a decoy. They must scramble to fight off hangovers and other impairments while trying to save the city for real.
Obliterated premiered Nov. 30 on Netflix and landed in the streamer’s worldwide top 10 list of English-language series for six weeks. During that time, the eight-episode season (which has a running time of six hours, 50 minutes) recorded 29 million “views” — the equivalent of that many full runs of the series.
In the United States, Obliterated accumulated 2.77 billion minutes of viewing over the four weeks it spent on the top 10 streaming charts from Nielsen, which works out to about 6.76 million views.
Sony Pictures Television, which also produces Cobra Kai and where Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald have an overall deal, produced Obliterated. The trio executive produced with their Counterbalance Entertainment colleague Dina Hillier.
